Installing A Multi Zone Intelli-HEAT System In Naperville, IL
One of the best compliments we can receive is seeing a customer who is happy with their system choose to hire us for more projects. That was the case for this homeowner in Naperville, IL.
They had originally called us to help them heat and cool an addition to their home. There was poorly designed ductwork attached to it, and they were looking to use the space all year round, even when it was too hot or cold outside. We installed a single zone Mitsubishi ductless mini split. It required no ductwork, which was important for this project.
They were trying to use added ductwork to treat this addition to their home, which wasn’t really working well. When HVAC systems are designed for a home, and then an addition is put on after, adding new ductwork isn’t really the answer. The HVAC system isn’t sized to treat that new room, and the duct system isn’t designed to filter air to a new space. Instead, I much prefer to install a ductless mini split to supplement the existing HVAC system.
This mini split is able to heat in the winter, and cool in the summer. It’s whisper quiet, energy efficient, and the comfort it provided was better than the rest of the house! They were THRILLED with the new ductless mini split, and wanted to see how they could bring this same kind of heating and cooling to the rest of their home.
Problem: Uncomfortable addition to their home needed heating and cooling. They also wanted a new whole home system.
Solution: We installed a Mitsubishi intelli-HEAT system to treat the entire home efficiently.
Replacing The Whole Home HVAC System
After they had fallen in love with the new mini split system for their addition, they wanted to see if they could do the same for the rest of the home. Without any more room in the electrical panel for another system, we suggested replacing their AC unit with an intelli-HEAT system from Mitsubishi. They would be able to heat and cool the 1st floor with the intelli-HEAT, and have separate wall units for the upstairs bedrooms. After all was said and done, this was a 3-zone system.
Why Choose Mitsubishi intelli-HEAT?
After speaking with the homeowner, we knew that this Mitsubishi intelli-HEAT system would be perfect for their home. The current HVAC system was alright, but it didn’t provide the heating and cooling that the mini split did, and wasn’t as energy efficient either. Instead of a normal ductless mini split system, we recommended the intelli-HEAT system. This is something fairly new from Mitsubishi.
This system uses both the mini split heat pump system, as well as a furnace, in order to provide you with optimal comfort and energy efficiency. The way this system works is when the weather is milder, like in the spring or fall when you may need a bit of heating or cooling, the heat pump system works. This will work all summer long for air conditioning as well, and most of the fall. The only time the furnace will kick on is if it’s too cold, and it becomes more efficient to run the furnace.
Heat pumps can both heat and cool the home, but in places like Naperville where the winters can be pretty extreme, a furnace may provide more efficient heating when it gets VERY cold.
This dual fuel system is a perfect way to reduce the environmental impact from your HVAC system, save money on energy bills, and improve home comfort. The system automatically switches between whichever system is going to provide superior comfort and energy savings, the heat pump or the furnace.
This reduction in fossil fuel usage was very attractive to the homeowner. They didn’t have to give up their furnace completely, but it will allow them to run it ONLY when it is necessary. The less fuel we burn, the better it is for the ozone, and the environment.
Installing The Mitsubishi Intelli-HEAT System
All in all, we had 2 separate installations for this homeowner. First we installed the single zone ductless mini split for their addition. This took one single day. The second installation was a bit longer of a process.
For the second installation, we removed the old air conditioner, and installed a 3 zone Mitsubishi intelli-HEAT system. This installation took 3 days to complete. We put a single unit in the living area downstairs, and 2 separate units in the bedrooms upstairs. No ductwork was needed, and luckily this was an easy and clean installation.
Zoned HVAC Saves Energy And Improves Comfort
Now that the entire system is installed, this Naperville home has 4 different HVAC “zones”. There’s a zone in the addition, one in the living room, and then one in each different bedroom. This is going to help in a few ways.
For one, it’s going to save energy. With a traditional HVAC system, you would set the thermostat, and the entire home would try and get to that temperature. This means that the rooms you aren’t using at all, like bedrooms, would be cooled or heated for hours when they aren’t in use. This is a pretty big waste of energy. Instead, with a zoned system, you can set the bedroom units to a lower setting, or have them turned off.
Secondly, you are going to have more customized comfort. If you don’t agree with someone about the temperature, you can have your rooms set at different temps. If you want to hang out in the addition, you don’t have to be at the same temperature as those watching TV in the living room. This zoned HVAC system allows for more customized comfort.
Saving With Tax Credits And Rebates
HVAC systems like these are extremely energy efficient, like we’ve mentioned. Because of this, not only are these homeowners going to save on energy bills, but these systems also qualify for rebates and tax credits! In an effort to encourage homeowners to install energy efficient HVAC equipment, there are programs in place to offer financial incentives.
These homeowners qualified for a few great offers: $400 rebate from ComEd, $500 Spring Promotion from Mitsubishi, and $2000 IRA tax credit! When you combine these with the energy savings they are going to see, the investment in this system isn’t as much of a burden to take on.
Installing A New HVAC System In Naperville, IL
These homeowners couldn’t be happier with their new HVAC system. Instead of using separate systems for heating and cooling, this dual fuel system operates as a single unit. There’s no need to switch the system they are using. Instead they can simply set the thermostat and the home will be comfortable no matter what time of year it is.
