Installing A Ductless Mini Split In Clarendon Hills, IL

Installing A Ductless Mini Split In Clarendon Hills, ILFor this Clarendon Hills homeowner, golfing in the air conditioning was the goal for their home. It doesn’t sound as crazy as you think! They recently installed a new golf simulator in their sunroom, and wanted to be able to use it no matter what time it is. They decided to install a ductless mini split in their sunroom that was able to heat and cool the space no matter what time of year it is.

We’ve installed lots of ductless mini splits, especially as supplements to fix a room that just doesn’t seem to stay comfortable. There are a lot of reasons people love to use mini splits for heating and cooling, and for this homeowner, they knew it was the right solution to hit the “golf course”.

In this article, we will tell you a little bit more about why they decided to go with a ductless mini split system, and what the benefits of a ductless mini split system are!

Problem: Their new golf simulator was in the sunroom that had no temperature control. They wanted to be able to heat and cool the room.

Solution: We installed a ductless mini split system to provide heating and cooling to their sunroom and allow them to use the golf simulator year-round.

Ductless Mini Splits Are Great For Sunrooms

Ductless Mini Splits Are Perfect For SunroomsAdditions to your home, like sunrooms or 3rd season rooms, are a fantastic option to add more space to your home, and often have a room with some more light in it to enjoy. The only problem with them is that they are not designed with HVAC in mind, and almost never have ductwork to provide treated air.

So in these rooms with no HVAC and a ton of windows, it can get very hot in the summer, and also very cold in the winter. It makes the room uncomfortable and sometimes unusable. With the new golf simulator in there, they wanted to be able to make this space comfortable, but didn’t want to use space heaters or window AC units.

They decided to install a single zone ductless mini split system. This is perfect for this space, and really any addition for a few reasons.

Ductless Mini Splits Are A Perfect Supplemental HVAC System

In this case, and in the case with most additions to homes, there is no ductwork that is attached to your main heating and cooling system. For this homeowner, their main HVAC system was working perfectly fine. They wanted to add this mini split to cool this particular room, without it impacting the rest of the home.

This is great for rooms that need a bit more heating or cooling, because it doesn’t negatively impact the rest of your home, and it doesn’t have to suck up energy. If your addition was attached to the main HVAC system, it would be working even when you didn’t need it, working your system harder and costing you money on energy bills.

Ductless Mini Splits Heat And Cool

This homeowner didn’t want to have to install 2 different systems to treat the space in different seasons. One of the reasons they loved the ductless mini splits were because they could provide both heating and cooling.

Mini splits function as heat pumps, which can provide air conditioning in the summer, and heat in the winter. This eliminates the need for 2 separate systems, and makes it easy to keep the space comfortable year-round.

Mini Splits Are Energy Efficient

Ductless mini splits operate VERY efficiently. They typically use less energy than traditional HVAC systems, which leads to energy savings and lower energy bills than if they were to use a space heater or a window AC unit.

Adding a new HVAC system to the home is inherently going to raise the energy bills a bit, but compared to other HVAC solutions, mini splits are going to keep the costs very low.

Mini Splits Are Very Quiet

Unlike a window AC that’s going to be VERY loud when it’s running, a mini split is extremely quiet. These systems run around 30 decibels, whereas a window AC unit is about double that at 50-60 decibels. If you’ve ever sat in a room with one running, you probably know how loud it can be.

Mini splits have become more popular in offices and restaurants because of this quiet operation and ability to save energy. They are also great for bedrooms and living rooms. The homeowners were thrilled the first time they turned it on and didn’t have any loud rattle or whirring to distract them while they are hitting off the tee!

The Mini Split Installation Process

The Ductless Condenser Is Nicely Tucked Against The HouseFor this project, we were able to get the whole installation done in one day. They opted to go with a floor mounted system, which would be right next to the simulator. We installed the condenser right outside, so there was no need to run any line set on the sides of the house.

If there were more zones being installed, it would have taken longer, but with a project like this it’s fairly simple and quick. Once the system was installed it was ready to make the place comfortable right away!

Fortunately for these homeowners, they qualified for a $1000 rebate from ComEd, and a $2000 tax credit from the Inflation Reduction Act! Systems like these often qualify for rebates and tax credits, depending on their levels of energy efficiency. Different government programs and local utility companies will offer these financing incentives to motivate homeowners to install more energy efficient equipment.

This more energy efficient equipment is going to keep your energy costs down, like we have previously mentioned, and also help lower your environmental impact!
