Replacing AC With Mitsubishi Intelli-HEAT In Glen Ellyn, IL

Replacing AC With Mitsubishi Intelli-HEAT In Glen Ellyn, ILWe recently received a call from a homeowner in Glen Ellyn, IL, with a common complaint that we are used to: “My air conditioning isn’t working”. This is very normal for us, and it’s usually the reason that someone contacts an HVAC company. They weren’t sure what the problem was, and were looking for some help with either a repair or a replacement.

When we went to take a look at the air conditioning system, it was clear that it was time for a replacement. The current air conditioning system was old, and still used refrigerants that were going to be banned from production in 2025. Instead of trying to repair an old and broken down air conditioner, they decided to upgrade their home with a brand new HVAC system.

Installing A Mitsubishi Intelli-HEAT System

This Dual Fuel Furnace Is Perfect For An Illinois HomeWe gave these Glen Ellyn homeowners a few options when it came to replacing their AC. They told us that their heating system was on its last legs as well, and wanted to install an HVAC system that would take care of both their heating and cooling. To this point they had separate heating and cooling systems, which was very common for years.

They decided to install a Mitsubishi Intelli-HEAT system. This is a dual fuel heating and cooling system. It will be able to provide cooling in the summer, and heating in the winter. There is a bit more to it than that though. Mitsubishi Intelli-HEAT is a new kind of technology that helps you improve comfort, save energy, and reduce your environmental impact.

What Is A Dual Fuel HVAC System?

A dual fuel HVAC system uses different sources of energy, depending on which is more energy efficient. With this system, it operates as a heat pump in the milder times of year. The spring and fall, as well as the edges of summer and winter, when the weather isn’t too extreme. This is perfect for our area of Illinois that sees all four seasons, but has very bitter cold winters.

When the weather isn’t so cold, the heat pump component of the HVAC system is going to provide heating or cooling, whichever is needed. Then when the temperature drops very low, the furnace kicks on, and uses gas to heat the home.

This kind of system serves a few purposes:

Improved Energy Efficiency

The dual fuel system is perfect for saving energy. Heat pumps are some of the most energy efficient systems you can use to heat or cool your home. Sometimes when it gets VERY cold, they still work, but may have to use more energy than you would prefer to provide that heat. Instead of pushing the heat pump, the furnace will kick on automatically, burning gas in order to provide more efficient heating.

If you were using gas the whole time, you’d likely be using more energy than you should to heat the home. Conversely, if you just had a heat pump, it may cost a bit more to run when the weather becomes very cold. This combination allows you to use the most energy efficient source in order to stay comfortable and save money.

Better For The Environment

This Condenser Is Part Of The Heat Pump Component Of The SystemIn an effort to reduce the amount of fossil fuel we burn, heat pumps have become very popular. They are extremely efficient, and run off of electricity, rather than combustion of oil or gas like a traditional furnace. This is one of the reasons why the Inflation Reduction Act included tax credits up to $2000 for energy efficient heat pumps. It encourages homeowners to install more energy efficient equipment, reducing our carbon footprint.

This homeowner took advantage of the $2000 tax credit, and also received a $1400 rebate from ComEd on the new system. These programs aim to take a little of the financial burden off of homeowners who are trying to improve their energy efficiency, and reduce their impact on the ozone and environment!

Improved Comfort

Along with saving energy, lower energy bills, and a reduced carbon footprint, you can also expect to feel more comfortable at home! Older HVAC systems have a hard time regulating the temperature at times, and aren’t always able to keep up with the demands. Instead this system can treat any temperature because of the dual heat pump and furnace. It’s also very convenient for shoulder season, when you may need a SLIGHT bit of heating, or a SLIGHT bit of cooling.

Traditional heating and cooling systems were not always the best when you only needed a little bit of a temperature adjustment. Not with the Mitsubishi Intelli-HEAT system.

Installing The New HVAC System

Luckily this was a very common project for us, and we were able to finish the installation within 2 days. We removed the old air conditioning system and furnace, then made sure their ductwork was in solid shape. We installed the new Mitsubishi Intelli-HEAT system, and made sure it was working properly.

For the homeowners, they simply have to set the thermostat and the rest is taken care of. There’s no need to switch your heating from the heat pump to the furnace. The system uses sensors and data to make the switch itself. This level of convenience is exactly what these homeowners were looking for. They wanted to improve their comfort, and also reduce their energy consumption, which is exactly what this system will do for them.
